Describe the trends of agricultural growth in India since Independence.
Since India's independence in 1947, there have been several trends in the country's agricultural growth. One of the main trends has been an increase in overall productivity and output. This has been achieved through the use of modern agricultural techniques, such as the use of high-yielding crop varieties and the widespread adoption of irrigation systems.
Another trend has been a shift away from subsistence farming toward commercial farming. This has been driven by rising population and income levels, as well as government policies aimed at promoting agricultural exports.
However, despite these positive trends, there are also several challenges facing Indian agriculture. One of the main challenges is the limited availability of arable land, as well as the degradation of existing farmland due to overuse and climate change. Additionally, there are issues with water scarcity, particularly in semi-arid regions, which is affecting crop yields and food security.
Despite these challenges, the Indian government has implemented various policies to support agricultural development, such as investment in irrigation, infrastructure and technology to promote agricultural growth.
